Most boiler feed pumps are centrifugal pumps that pump water into the boiler. Water supply can be either freshwater or condensate water returned to the boiler from the boiler. These are used to raise the water pressure sufficiently to feed the boiler drum. 

Boilers need a constant water supply to maintain their temperature to avoid overheating. According to the boiler's capacity and usage, boiler feedwater pumps can range from positive displacement pumps to centrifugal pumps. 

They can also be driven by either steam or motor. For small boilers, you can use either positive displacement pumps or stacking in-line centrifugal pump. In-lined centrifugal pump are used for larger boilers.

These parts are found in the boiler feed pumps:- 

Casing: The casing covers the impeller of the pump and supports the whole pump assembly. It acts as a seal and prevents leakages. Diffuser casing is the type of casing used in feedwater pumps.

Impeller: The impeller is an integral part of a pump. It rotates within the casing. It takes energy from the shaft, and then adds fluid to it.

Pump shaft: The shaft is what transfers mechanical energy from the motor of the turbine to the impeller blades.

Shaft Sleeve:- A hollow cylindrical tube that covers the shaft to protect it from corrosion and other damages.

Mechanical Seal:- A mechanical seal allows the shaft to pass through the moist area, but not allow the water to flow through it.
